Our Mission

GEOWOW's challenge was to improve Earth Observation data discovery, accessibility and exploitability, and to evolve the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) for the benefit of all Societal Benefit Areas (SBAs) with particular focus on Weather, Ocean Ecosystems and Water.


Improving the use of weather forecast data is of utmost importance for decision makers. Thanks to the evolutions that GEOWOW brings to GEOSS, the weather scientists community can benefit from enhanced discoverability, accessibility and exploitability of weather forecasts and other weather-related data.

Ocean Ecosystems

Global stewardship of the oceans towards sustainable development requires an understanding and monitoring of the ocean state, for variables from physics to fish. GEOWOW is providing ocean scientists with means for assessing the ocean state, including the state of ecosystems and the threats to their sustainability.


Water data are distributed from heterogeneous sources, accessible in different ways: scientists are therefore forced to deal with data access issues, instead of focusing on the actual science. GEOWOW is enhancing GEOSS to ensure that the different hydrological applications and data are accessible in the same way.
